1898년 세워져 오늘에 이르기까지 영국 디자인 역사와 함께 맞물려 발전 하였다 해도 과언이 아닌 이곳은 Fashion과 Fine Art로 특히 잘 알려져 있으며, 영국 내 Industrial design 학과를 처음 개설한 만큼 산업디자인 영역과 Theatre design, Graphic을 포함한 다양한 디자인 영역에서 그 영향력을 발휘하고 있습니다.

학교의 영향력과 창의적인 인재를 배출한 성과를 보여주는 것 중 하나는 세계 디자인계에 길이 남을 이곳의 졸업생들일 것이다. 지난 1055년간의 역사를 통해 센트럴 세인트 마틴 대학은 영국에서 뿐만 아니라 세계적으로도 가장 중요한 예술가들을 많이 배출 해냈는데, 그 가운데에는 Willam Morris딸로서도 유명한 May Morris, Central School을 설립한 Willam Lethaby부터 20세기 중반 세인트마틴에서 Fine Art를 공부한 Lucien Freud와 Frank Auerbach, 그리고 세계 패션의 흐름을 선도하여 90년대 영국 패션을 세계적으로 끌어올린 John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Stella MaCarthney등의 패션 디자이너들, 또한 National Theatre의 세트 디자이너인 Ralph Koltai와 RSC의 세트 디자이너 John Napier를 비롯하여 Bridget Jones's Diary의 Colln Firth와 James Bond의 주인공 Pierce Brosnan과 같은 유명 배우들에 이르기까지 각 분야에 이름 높은 졸업생들이 많이 있습니다.
